Davis, CA - Shasta Point Retirement Community in Davis, California, has a truly unique history. Community Housing by Pacific Retirement Services (CHPRS) developed this project as part of a larger project, University Retirement Community (URC), a continuing care retirement community (CCRC). The effort to build URC was spearheaded by several dedicated, hardworking citizens whose dream was to build both a CCRC and an affordable senior housing community for Davis residents.
In 1993, this group of citizens formed a non-profit organization, the Davis Senior Housing and Care Continuum (DSHCC), whose sole purpose was to enlist both the public and private sectors to finance and construct both a model CCRC and a affordable senior housing community. DSHCC worked with the newly formed URC Board of Directors and Pacific Retirement Services (PRS), which was selected to oversee the planning, construction, and management of these two new senior communities.
Community Housing by Pacific Retirement Services worked closely with the DSHCC and the City of Davis, which provided CHPRS with $830,000 toward the project. On June 23, 2000, a Groundbreaking Celebration was held for Shasta Point Retirement Community, a 67-unit affordable senior housing community adjacent to URC.
Grants Pass, OR - Working through the City of Grants Pass, Community Housing by Pacific Retirement Services obtained a $37,000 interest-free loan for Foothill Retirement Center II. The funds were used to pay Systems Development Charges (SDCs).
Roseburg, OR - Working with the State of Oregon, Community Housing by Pacific Retirement Services successfully applied for and received a $330,000 grant from the HOME Investment Partnerships Program. This program consists of a block-grant of federal housing funds that goes to 500 state and local jurisdictions. This program is designed to expand the supply of safe, decent, sanitary, and affordable housing, with an emphasis on providing rental housing for very low-income and low-income Americans. Its second focus is to mobilize and strengthen state and local governments' abilities to design and implement strategies for achieving adequate supplies of affordable housing. Third, this program promotes the development of partnerships among state and local governments, the federal government, private industry, and non-profit organizations.
